Since you are to have the [veu] of the
papers, I have sent to y^e Lords &^a I hope you will be
pleased to exscuse me for not sending you a Coppy, [torn]
will finde I, ^am somewhat perticular Conserning the
Province of Mayne. Let me beg of you as you tend
the welfaire of his Maj^ties. Interest & y^e Introduce[torn]
and well settling his Goverm^t in New England to pro-
mote y^t business, for unless y^t Province be united to
New hampshire , it will be Impossible for y^e Kings Gover-
ment to be supported however it hath bin represented
by M^r. Mason at Whitehall , the Condicon of y^e people
in his Province is very meane and not Likely to Improve
haveing no Fishery nor Tymber Considerable Left to
Car^ry on Trade, the people are willing to contribue w^t
they are able to do towards y^e support of His Maj^ties. Gover-
ment, and to pay M^r Mason anything to their ability
but are very Hard slo[e] in turning Tennants to him, he
seemes dissattisfied I have not Justified him in all his
quarrels he had w^th y^e people when he was here before
and y^t I have not proceeded as he would have don[torn]
he bin Govern^r I finde them more dutifull in th[torn]
behaviour and Exspressions towards his Maj^ty. Gover[torn]
then I did exspect, & y^e [Oministe^es.] pray hearteley for his [torn]
There being a greate want of armes in y^e Province, hop[torn]
you will be pleased to move y^e Lords &^c. to proceed four
hundred & fifty firelock muskets & one hundred Carbyns
& one hundred Case of pistols without which wee cannot be
safe against y^e Indiens, who are well Armed by the French
which makes them verry Insolent, The Assembly meets
14^th of Novemb^r, I dout not but to get such Lawes past, as will be sattisfactory I have put M^r Chamberlaine, ^{into ye Execution of} yo^rs and
his own office alsoe M^r Randalph, who is now with us, he
and M^r Mason last night gave in writeing, their sev-
erall Charges against Maj^r. Waldron & M^r Martyn, I
wish they make out their charge I hear their Witnesses
faile them, when I have examined I shall give a farthe^r
account to His Maj^ty, I have ordered M^r Chamberlayn
to Audite y^e Publique account of all monies That has bin
raised since His Maj^ties. Commission y^e 18^th. of September
1679 w^ch shall be transmitted w^h all other proceedings by
y^e next oppertunity I have sent y^e seale by y^e Capt of y^e
Man a warr, I pray exscuse me. y^t I had not time to w
write to M^r Povey being in great Hurry. I p^rsent my
humble Service to them all perticularly and M^r Gwynn
